چکیده

Rosenthal, Sanford M. (National Institute of Arthritis and Metabolic Diseases, Bethesda, Md.) and Donald T. Dubin. Metabolism of polyamines by Staphylococcus. J. Bacteriol. 84:859-863. 1962-Although spermine and spermidine are not detectable in staphylococci grown in purified medium, considerable amounts (0.7 to 1.4 mumole/g wet wt) were demonstrated in cells grown in the presence of these amines. Conjugation of spermine, and to a lesser extent of spermidine, was demonstrated. Putrescine and cadaverine added to purified medium are not appreciably taken up by staphylococcal cells. However, high percentages were recovered in the medium in conjugated form. These conjugates were shown to be monoacetylputrescine and probably monoacetylcadaverine. Meat infusion broth, neopeptone, spermine, and spermidine were highly inhibitory to this acetylation. No evidence of utilization of these polyamines was obtained.

Determination of Biologically Active Polyamines in Turkey Breast Meat by HPLC and Derivatization with Dansyl Chloride

BacBackground and Objectives: polyamines (putrecsine, spermidine and spermine) are widespread components, which can be found in most of the foods like meat, fruits, vegetables, cheese and wine. Studies show that reducing the level of polyamines in cells may help to slow down some cancer processes however, dietary polyamines may be required in wound healing, and for growth, maturation and regene...

Root Regeneration in Pistachio Rootstock is Affected by Auxin and Polyamines

Pistacia vera cv Badami-e-riz and P.vera cv Ghazvini are the most important and popular rootstocks in Iran, which tolerate salinity and phytophthora fungi. This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of various concentrations of polyamines and IBA on root regeneration of transplanted bare- rooted ‘Badami-e-riz’ and ‘Ghazvini’ pistachio rootstocks. The mean comparison between IBA and polyam...

Native efflux pumps contribute resistance to antimicrobials of skin and the ability of Staphylococcus aureus to colonize skin.

BACKGROUND  Staphylococcus aureus colonizes skin in the presence of antimicrobial fatty acids and polyamines. The chromosomally encoded Tet38 efflux transporter confers resistance to tetracycline and fitness in abscesses, but its natural substrates and those of the Nor quinolone efflux pumps are unknown. METHODS  Susceptibility of tet38 and other pump mutants to and pump gene induction by fat...

Changes of free polyamines in the leaves and stems of ‘Kinnow’ mandarin tree as affected by alternate bearing

In order to investigate the seasonal changes and the possible role of the free polyamines in the leaves and stems on the alternate bearing habit of the ‘Kinnow’ mandarin (Citrus reticulata Blanco) trees, a comparative study was conducted to analyze the levels of free polyamines  (putrescine, spermidine and spermine) in the leaves and stems tissues of “on” and &ldquo...

Polyamine metabolism and colorectal cancer 3. Influence of drugs on polyamine metabolism for CRC chemoprevention 4. Influence of nutritional factors on polyamine metabolism for CRC chemoprevention 5. Influence of dietary polyamines on CRC chemoprevention

Chemoprevention is the long-term use of different chemical agents, both synthetic and natural, to prevent or delay the onset of disease. Since colorectal cancer has a significant environmental component, it is an ideal disease in which to evaluate the potential benefits of chemopreventive agents. The polyamines, spermine, spermidine and putrescine have been involved in almost all the steps of c...
